Before digging deep into Data Science?

My Cousin Arjun once imparted this wisdom to me: "Nikhil, if your vision for what you wish to accomplish is already crystal clear in your mind, you’ve effectively conquered half the battle. The remaining challenge lies in manifesting those aspirations into tangible reality."

Imagine that you are in a fancy store, and everything you are looking at, you want to buy it, but a wise man will always ask question: 
Note: wise man is not from a Royal Family 😄): 
  • Should I buy it? 
  • Is it really necessary for me? if Yes, Why?
  • Can I live without it?
  • Is it really going to impact anything?

Scenario 1 : Yes, Yes (Reason required, why?), No, Yes.   👉"Go for it"
Scenarios 2: Yes, Don't know, yes, Probably.                     👉 "Its more of a desire, rather than a need"
Scenarios 3: Yes, Yes (reason unclear), No, No.                👉 "Rich brat, yet to discover the world"

Now, think about it, if the answer to the first question (Should I buy it?) is already 'No'. Then it means you are already clear in your mind, you will not have to go far more deep into the realm of other questions.
If the answer to every question is Yes, except 3rd one, then its worth a shot $$$.

Choosing data Science as a career is not everyone's cup of tea. But if you have made this far, then you are probably a direct descendant of some super power, excluding the DC and Marvel's dusky hunk.

Here are some fundamental questions to ponder before embarking on this path:

  • Why Data Science? Is it because it’s trending, or does it genuinely resonate with your interests?
  • Why are you here? What brought you to this field?
  • Do you really want to become a Data Scientist? Is this your calling, or are you exploring it because of external influences?
  • What motivates you? Beyond passion, is there a deeper purpose that draws you to this career?
  • How would you rate yourself in Mathematics? Are you comfortable with numbers, logic, and problem-solving?
  • If you come from a non-technical background:
    Can you relate data science concepts to your current field? How would you integrate your knowledge and experience with data science, even from a non-technical perspective?
  • How often do you think about Data Science? Reflect on at least three scenarios in the past week where it occupied your thoughts.
  • How long do you think Data Science will thrive as a career? What’s your perspective on its longevity in the job market?
  • What excites you the most about Data Science? For me, it’s the thrill of asking “What?” and “Why?” to unlock the stories hidden within data.

Like the wise man’s questions in the store, these questions will guide you toward clarity. Reflect deeply, and over time, you will find your answer—whether this is truly the career you wish to pursue.
If your answer is a resounding Yes, then I’ll see you on the other side of success. Of course, success is not guaranteed, but with the right mindset and effort, your chances significantly increase.
